Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking official said the incident made him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
