Two Arrests Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident resulted in the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people sustained injuries by what is thought to be pepper spray, according to law enforcement.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in Lambeth on suspicion of robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.

These detentions come after an investigation into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the incident, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their suitcases upon exiting a car park lift.

A three-year-old girl was among the those hurt in the event. Five people were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been released.

Police detained a man in his thirties on suspicion of theft and assault close to the scene. He was subsequently released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.

Police were alerted at about 08:10 GMT after reports came in regarding a number of people hurt by an irritating chemical believed to be pepper spray.

The assault - which police said was isolated and not being treated as an act of terror - resulted in delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility briefly.
